WARNING
The replacement part (service kit) for the passenger occupant detection system is already precalibrated and must not be separated under any circumstances. The service kit consists of:
Removing
- Move the seat height adjustment into the center position before lifting the seat out.
- Disconnect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to → Electrical Equipment; Rep. Gr.27; Battery; Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Remove the front passenger seat. Refer to → Chapter "Front Seat, Removing and Installing, Manual/Power".
- Fasten the front seat on the Engine/Transmission Holder - Seat Repair Fixture -VAS6136-. Refer to → Chapter "Front Seat, Mounting on Fixture for Seat Repair".
- Equipment version: Remove the storage compartment. Refer to → Chapter "Storage Compartment, Removing and Installing".
- Open the rear wiring holder -1- for modular wire routing on the seat pan lower frame using a screwdriver -arrow- and remove the corrugated tube -2-.
- Remove the wires from the protective cover -2- and free up.
- Remove the front backrest. Refer to → Chapter "Front Backrest, Removing and Installing, Standard/Sport Seat".
- Free up the connectors for the seat belt latch and disconnect.
- Remove the bolt -1-.
- Unclip and disengage the seat position sensor -2- for the lower seat pan -3--arrow-.
- Remove the cable ties or cable clips for the wire on the seat pan lower frame.
- Remove the screw -2- and remove the Passenger Occupant Detection System Control Module -J706--item 1- from the retainer.
Caution
Do not disconnect the connectors on the Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor -G452- and the Passenger Occupant Detection System Control Module -J706-.
Caution
Do not disconnect the connectors on the Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor -G452- and the Passenger Occupant Detection System Control Module -J706-.
- Open the pressure hose guide -1- for the passenger occupant detection system with a narrow screwdriver and free up the pressure hose -2-.
- Unclip the Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor -G452--item 3- carefully from the bracket using a narrow screwdriver -arrow-.
Caution
Do not separate the seat pan cushion from the passenger occupant detection system.
- Remove the cover and cushion on the seat pan and carefully fold to the side. Refer to → Chapter "Seat Pan Cover and Cushion, Removing and Installing".
- Carefully remove the passenger occupant detection system clips -1 and 3- on the seat pan using the Pry Lever -80-200-.
WARNING
Risk of damage!
Do not bend the passenger occupant detection system or the pressure hose.
- Remove the cover and the cushion for the seat pan by first removing the Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor -G452- with the wiring harness through the opening in the seat pan. Guide the Passenger Occupant Detection System Control Module -J706- through the opening last.
Caution
Do not separate the seat pan cushion from the passenger occupant detection system.
- Separate the cover and cushion on the seat pan. Refer to → Chapter "Seat Pan Cover and Cushion, Separating".
Installing
Caution
Do not disconnect the connectors on the Passenger Occupant Detection System Pressure Sensor -G452- and the Passenger Occupant Detection System Control Module -J706-.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
WARNING
Note
Make sure the connectors are installed correctly and are secure.
WARNING
Ignition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. There must not be anyone inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.
- Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to → Electrical Equipment; Rep. Gr.27; Battery; Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
When installing a new service kit and after each repair on the front passenger seat where the seat and/or the backrest cover is "disengaged", a basic setting procedure must be performed on the seat occupied recognition control module. Refer to → Chapter "Passenger Occupant Detection System Deactivation Additional Safety Precautions, Market-Specific". The passenger occupant detection sensor is only installed in the front passenger seat.
- Select "airbag" in "Guided Fault Finding" to complete → Vehicle diagnostic tester. The passenger occupant detection sensor is only installed in the front passenger seat.
Note
If the Airbag Indicator Lamp -K75- signals a fault after installing, check the DTC memory, erase it and check it again. Refer to → Vehicle diagnostic tester.
Installation notes, for example tightening specifications, replacing components. Refer to → Chapter "Component Location Overview - Passenger Occupant Detection System".
